'Miss Violet' Butterfly bush Buddleia x

Bought this shrub from BB Barns in Asheville and amended the clay soil we have with topsoil in full sun area and this thing adapted right away. It handled the crazy hot summer we had of 2024 and cold winter. Blooms consistently all throughout the season till frost. We are almost South Carolina at our area and if you’re in southern NC zone 8 this is a great shrub for you. Full sun, drought tolerant. Heat, cold, humid, clay, able. First time I’ve ever seen a hummingbird moth and had several all summer. Excellent buy!

I have had both Miss Molly and Miss Violet for 3 years now. While I adore both of them, if I had to pick one I'd definitely pick Miss Violet. Both of them are sterile, which is a must when planting butterfly bushes. Miss Violet has beautiful purple panicles and an almost blue toned foliage. I've seen many butterfly bushes but none have had leaves with this pleasing color. It pairs excellently with pinks, corals, whites and oranges. The habit is more rounded than Miss Molly, who likes to grow slightly taller than wide. Both of them have a pleasant, honey like scent. I do not supplement water. At all. These bushes like it dry and WILL keel over and die if overwatered. They want sun, sun, sun. One of my miss Mollys was getting extra water from my air conditioner dripping of all things and started to suffer despite being in full sun. Otherwise? Pest free. Bees and butterflies flock to it. A must for any pollinator garden!
